If you don’t have a hair and scalp scrub in your life, it may just be the thing you need! There are loads of benefits of using a hair scalp scrub, the main one being, it helps keep your scalp and hair as healthy and beautiful as possible.
Today, we are going to take an in-depth look at Zion Health’s Deep Cleansing Scalp and Hair Scrub. We will review what the ingredients are, what benefits the scrub has, how to use it the proper way, and our overall final thoughts on what we really think about this cleansing hair and scalp scrub.
The Ingredients
There are some really great and healthy ingredients in this hair and scalp scrub, but there are a handful of ingredients you may want to proceed with caution over. We will break all of that down below:
The good ingredients you will find in this scrub are sea salt, biotin, argan oil, vitamin E, aloe vera gel, sweet almond oil, clay minerals, and mangosteen power. Together, these ingredients help purify your hair and your scalp, give both an intense boost of hydration and will make your hair shine with natural radiance.
The sea salt is ideal in this scrub because it contains trace minerals that balance the pH in your scalp and hair. The coarse granules of the sea salt help to exfoliate and cleanse the hair and skin washing away product buildup, oils, and dead skin cells that can cause dandruff.
Ingredients of concern
While there are many ingredients in this scrub that are super healthy and we love, these three ingredients are cause for concern and are known and labeled on the EWG Skin Deep Database as having impacts on human health and the environment. You will want to proceed with caution if you choose to use them and be familiar with the risks.
Of particular concern is the fragrance used in this scrub. We don’t know what is used in this fragrance and what chemicals are lurking in that fragrance. It does not say that the fragrance they use comes from extracts of essential oils, which leads us to believe they are from unnatural sources.
The Benefits
This product is designed to dissolve any buildup in your hair or scalp, balance pH levels, and give your hair luster and shine like it is supposed to have.
All of those hair issues can arise from coloring your hair, using heat tools, hair products, etc. It can make your hair look dull and feel fragile and unhealthy. The scrub and the coarse granules of the sea salt help exfoliate your scalp, which allows all of the nutrients in the product to penetrate into the scalp and the hair.
If you suffer from oily hair or hair that seems to get oily quickly after a wash, this scrub is a great way to remove excess oils and impurities. It will also help get rid of dandruff.
How to Use
This hair scrub could not be simpler to use. When you are in the shower and your hair is wet, scoop some of the scrub from the jar and work into your scalp all the way down through the ends of your hair.
Really work the scrub in and focus on massaging the scrub into your scalp and hair. It is essentially like using a face or body scrub, but you are using this scrub in the hair. Once you work it in well and it gets all foamy, rinse out completely in the shower and shampoo and condition your hair like normal.
Final Thoughts
We will start off with the good about this scrub! We love that it is super easy to use and doesn’t require much time or any adjustments to your normal shower routine. Being able to use the scrub and wash your hair like normal is ideal.
The scrub gets foamy in your hair and really feels like it is working and cleansing your hair. Once you rinse it out, you can already feel a difference. Your hair feels soft and silky to the touch right after it is rinsed out. We also noticed even a couple of days after used in the shower, your hair stays cleaner and is less oily than if you didn’t use the scrub and that is a serious win.
However, we aren’t crazy about the fact the hair and scalp scrub does use some questionable ingredients that are not and natural and healthy and we like here at The Natural Beauty Blog. While there are certainly other products on the market that contains significantly more chemicals than this scrub, the fact is has a few unnatural ingredients may be a deal-breaker for some.
You will have to weigh the pros and cons of using this hair product to determine if you are comfortable with using it or not.
